No Limits Mentoring Program

The Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame has developed a Mentoring Program that organizes visits by our alumni members to local schools to deliver motivational speeches based on their life experiences. The mentoring program has also become a cornerstone of Ability Awareness Expos where school children visit local community centers to learn more about people with disabilities and adaptive sports opportunities. The alumni members conduct 20-30 minute presentations as well as offer one-on-one mentoring to children who want to learn more about living life with a disability. Their presentations also involve displays of their athletic accomplishments and demonstrations of various adaptive sports equipment.

Adaptive Sports Coalition

The Coalition is a group of adaptive sports organizations that are partnering to enhance sports, recreation, and leisure activities for individuals with disabilities throughout the state of Michigan. Current membership of the Coalition includes 15 grass roots non-profit groups which organize and facilitate adaptive sports programs in the community. The adaptive sports programs range from wheelchair basketball and tennis, adaptive water and snow skiing, adaptive golf, sled hockey, hunting, handcycling, rugby, and bowling. The ADHOF helps the Coalition with their marketing efforts which enables these smaller groups to consolidate their resources to focus on the programs.

Scholarship Endowment Fund

The ADHOF is creating a scholarship endowment to benefit young athletes with disabilities as well as those children who aspire to careers that will benefit the disabled community. The scholarships are being created to encourage our children, especially those with a disability, to attend a university or college within the state of Michigan.

Wheelchair Basketball Co-Ed Club Team
Michigan State University

In association with Michigan State University, the ADHOF offers a Wheelchair Basketball Co-Ed Club Team that is available to MSU students with disabilities. In addition to playing other NCAA university wheelchair basketball teams throughout the country, the team will compete against other non-university wheelchair basketball teams throughout the state of Michigan. This program will help create awareness of a very popular adaptive sport available to people with disabilities.

Traveling Loan Closet

The ADHOF would like to make adaptive sports and recreation equipment more available to disabled children, teenagers and adults. This will enable a greater number of disabled individuals to experience the enjoyment and excitement of sports and recreation activities such as handcycling, water and snow skiing, and wheelchair basketball. The ultimate purpose is to motivate and encourage people of all ages with disabilities to become more mobile, active, independent, and productive members of their communities.
