SCOTT SUSZKO
2001 Male Athlete of the Year

Scott Suszko has a long list of accomplishments to highlight his already-impressive athletic career. Despite losing his left leg to cancer year earlier, he was captain and MVP of his high school wrestling team, winning several awards and setting a variety of records. As a junior at Standish Sterling High School, Scott achieved his 100th career win in wrestling, and in his senior year, he reached his 100th career pin of an opponent, finishing his wrestling career with an incredible overall record of 195-32. Of his 195 career victories, 108 were by pins. Scott holds school records for most career wins, most career pins, and the most pins in a single season. He was also a top finisher in the state wrestling tournament for three consecutive years, and in his senior season, Scott captured third place in the 2001 state championship meet. He was selected for the "Who's Who in Sports' and the "Who's Who Among American High School Students", and he was a top ten finalist for the Amateur Male Athlete of the Year in the state of Michigan. Scott's wrestling took him to Germany and Austria in July 2001 with the People-to-People Sports Ambassadors Program, earning the Most Valuable Player Award.
