MARY STACK
Enshrined October 4, 2001

Even with pseudohypoparathyroidism, Mary Stack has broken national power lifting records for both disabled and non-disabled athletes. Mary has competed in the Michigan Victory Games since 1990 earning five gold medals, and she captured a silver medal at the 1997 National Championships. She has competed at the World Power Lifting Championships and shattered two national records. She broke one national record in a 1999 competition held in California, and in April 2001, she broke another national mark while placing first in Oklahoma. In Mount Clemens in July 2000, Mary broke the state record for non-disabled athletes by lifting 245 pounds. Among her accomplishments: 5th place in 2000 in Sydney, Australia; 2nd place at the 1998 World Games; and many national firsts. She is also a national qualifier in track and field events and has competed in wheelchair basketball. The Michigan Wheelchair Basketball League recognized her in 1994 with the Lee Nelsey Player Award for the Spirit of the Games. She continues to live up to that honor, donating her time with adapted physical education classes and assisting at clinics and public awareness activities.
