Duncan O. Wyeth captured a total of 14 gold medals at the Michigan Regional Cerebral Palsy Games and won two golds and a silver at the 1981 National CP games. He was the first American to win a medal - a bronze in cycling at the 1982 World Cerebral Palsy Games in Denmark, and he also won a silver medal in discus. He also won honors at the '87 Michigan CP/Les Autres Games and at the Can-Am Pacific Games. As a cyclist in the 1988 Paralympics in Seoul, he was named Male Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee. He was a staff member to the 1992 U.S. Team in Barcelona and served as Chef de Mission for the 1996 U.S. Team in Atlanta. He has served on various U.S. Olympic Committee groups. Duncan has also been supportive of the Dwarf Athletic Association of America; helped develop the Youth Leadership Forum; and was recipient of the United Cerebral Palsy's President's Award for 2001. In 2000, the American Academy on Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine established the Duncan Wyeth Award to recognize an individual for contributions to the health and wellness of people with disabilities through sports and recreational programs. |
